What kind of Apostate are you?
by diamondblue1974 ini've been on this site now for a little while and think its brilliant and its been a tonic in getting things straight and for gathering research.
(thanks simon & ang).
in fact its difficult to get work done during the day because of reading posts on here.. a couple of months ago if someone wouldve asked me whether i was apostate i would have flatly refused partly because the indoctrination still has its effect even after a decade and the negative connotation attached to the word 'apostate' is still at the back of my mind.

Can you be an Apostate if you were raised in a religion you never wanted to be in and got out the first chance you had?
Technically ... sorta. But I would sweat it ... its not like horns are gonna sprout or anything.

You could say were all different tools, sometimes a job calls for a certain tool and thats where a variety of personality and experience helps.
Ticker
What a cool way to break it down ... and you're right, some times you need a finely tuned delicate instrument, and sometimes, only a mallet will do.

Any essay which uses the phrase 'American Values' in the first sentence immediately gives me the willies. Because any sensible person with a modicum of honesty knows that America was built on a lot of things ... most of which, had little or no value. taylorS
Ever since the Bush election debacle, every time I hear the phrase 'American Values' I hear HIM saying, in that corn-pone voice of his and see that silly expression. Naturally, I felt ill when I started the above article and fired off that statement without reading it.
Big mistake. I broke down and read it last night and found it to be unbiased and an extremely accurate break-down of the society method of control. I once thought the internet would most certainly take them out ... but now I'm not so sure. They may in fact do whatever it takes to survive ...
... but that possibility, if you really dwell on it, is kinda scary.

by being humble, quiet, understanding and letting them know that they dont require and org. to find God or christian love.
Ticker
That's a great attitude Ticker, I don't believe in bashing the Borg either.
I do it all the time ... but I don't advocate it ... for the record.
All jokes aside, Ticker, good for you ... I never bash the org to the faithful, because they would shut down and not hear a word.
But it aposto circles, its like playing darts.

I am not an apostate! I am a former Jehovah's Witness.
Apostates are just as bad a Jehovah's Witnesses!
Think what you want Slim ... its why we left ... to think for ourselves. But you can bet your avatar that the JW's consider you one. And why you would even give a flying watchtower what anyone thinks is beyond me. Their wrong. We know it. Screw 'em.
And to answer the question. I never gave that word a thought over the last twenty years. Until this last month which has caused tons of bones to leap out of my closet.
So i'm just embracing the whole apostasy thing ... and along with the anger, its growing like a weed.
So that would make me ... a Budding Apostate .

My Book of Bible Stories
by Taylor S. ini just got my hands on a copy of my book of bible stories ... (1978).
at first i was excited when a friend pulled it out of his bag, said he'd gotten it as a kid.
then i started flipping through, looking at the pictures, feeling the memories spin in my brain.

When I opened that BS book for first time in well over twenty years, my reaction was anger. But after reading this thread laughing my butt off at the repressed that are coming back ....
All the little boys wore tea towels and dressing gowns and had mascara beards painted on. The little girls used to put on my mums bangles and sequin headscarfs and makeup for a gypsy/harlot type combo look. It was fun at the time but in retrospect pretty weird.
new worldly ... not sure i wanted to bring that memory back. but when i read that, it came back any. i was so young ... i blocked it out. and you're right ... it felt so normal at the time. fun even. hell, we had no Halloween so ...... you take what you can get.
what kid wouldn't wanna dress up as Boaz ?

I'd love to send a copy of the Bible Stories book, the Great Teacher book (pink one) and the new Learning from the Great Teacher book to Dr. Phil. He wants to do a show about cults... he can start with that.... what almost all of us here were raised on.
oh my god scully .... great idea.
do you think he'd do it? personally, i stopped watching dr. phil a long time ago ... just a little too perfect for me. he really annoys the crap outta me now. i guess cause i know he'd point out all obvious flaws and i'd wanna smack his bald head.
